Yes, on some products. Activatable devices (except prepaid phones) carry a $45 fee. Drones, digital cameras and lenses, camcorders, golf launch monitors, premium and mobility scooters, electric wheelchairs, projectors and screens, premium cold tubs and saunas, and special-order products carry 15% of the purchase price.

There is no restocking fee if the product is unopened, or if you bought it in Alabama, Colorado, Hawaii, Iowa, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, or where the law prohibits it.

How do I return a Best Buy order by mail?

  1. Log in to your Best Buy account and find your order.
  2. Print the prepaid FedEx shipping label.
  3. Pack the item with all accessories, packaging and the original rechargeable battery, and put the label on the box.
  4. Take it to an authorized drop-off location within your return period.

Major appliances, TVs over 50 inches, kegerators and SodaStream makers cannot be shipped back. For items that came on a delivery truck, call 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289) for return and pickup options rather than the store. Shipping limits also apply to lithium and specialty batteries.

Returning to a Best Buy store

You can return any in-store or online Best Buy purchase to any Best Buy store. Bring the packing slip or receipt and the card you paid with. Many Marketplace items can also be returned in store, except at stores in Puerto Rico and Pacific Sales Kitchen & Home locations.

How does Best Buy refund you?

  • Most refunds go back the same way you paid.
  • More than $800 in cash, or more than $250 by check or a debit card without a major credit card logo: a check within 10 business days.
  • Paid with a Best Buy Gift Card: a new gift card or e-gift card.
  • No proof of purchase: store credit, which may be denied or limited, without state sales tax and fees.
  • Gifts: store credit in store; for mail returns, Best Buy credits the person who bought the gift.

If you bought items together for a discount or a free item, you lose that benefit unless you return them all.

What can you not return to Best Buy?

Nonreturnable once purchased: custom and personalized orders, Final Sale items, non-subscription digital content, codes and prepaid cards, vehicle key fobs, memberships, trading cards, products of 300 watt-hours or more, golf carts, utility terrain vehicles, electric bikes and mopeds, and plumbing items.

Nonreturnable once opened: products that interact with bodily fluids, SIM kits, LEGO products, completed services, delivered standby generators and whole home backup, opened Marketplace media, and consumables such as batteries, filters, ink and 3D printer filament.

Do you need your own carrier for a Best Buy return?

No for most returns: the FedEx label from Best Buy is free. Best Buy does not accept returns shipped from outside the country, so return shipments must start in the United States. For stores that do not supply a label, compare courier rates in our Shipping Calculator.
